Translation

Translation between English and Chinese is special. In no other language pairs are there so few ready equivalents.

Our process - there are six steps forming a continuous cycle. They are:

  • Translating sentence by sentence
  • Checking sentence by sentence
  • Polishing the target language
  • Validating the translation sentence by sentence by a senior staff
  • Proofreading by a third staff one final time before delivery. By now, your document has been worked on by three staff.
  • Post-job Learning - we pro-actively seek feedback from clients and study the feedback at Post-job Learning sessions held regularly. They are an effective way of sustaining quality of service, job after job.

We deliver much more than just accurate translation. In three specific ways, we add value.

One, we deliver your message even when there isn't a ready equivalent in Chinese. What is taken for granted in English may not exist in China. The latest in political and social development is one area. Innovative technology and processes are another. Our translation contributes to the introduction of the best of the British to China. In some cases, it has become the official term in the Chinese language.

Two, we maintain the integrity of your documents. Over the years, we have helped many clients establish their usage of Chinese where conforming to the official version in China would compromise their positions. The "Director of Public Prosecution" in Ireland is independent of the government. The official Chinese translation used the term “Attorney General”, which is a separate political appointment in Ireland. We argued the case for the client and won.

Three, we capture the full flavour of British expressions and notions. Sounding too English would fail to strike a chord. But sounding too Chinese could mislead. Getting that balance right is vital. At times, it is art. We've been at it for years.
