    • The starting salary is £26,000 per year (£24,000 during the probation period) to be increased to £30,000 per year when ready to take on the role of Editor or starting with £30,000 per year if you join as Editor

  • Main responsibilities:
    • Approving all translation from Chinese into English
    • Approving all translation from English into Chinese
    • Approving all English documents of the company
    • Helping with translation from Chinese into English
    • Staff development – assisting the Managing Director in tasks from assessing needs, planning training to implementation and reviews
  • Key requirements :
    • You need to be able to identify misunderstanding of the source text in English by checking the target text in Chinese. You don’t have to be able to fix the problem in Chinese, although that would be ideal
    • You need to be able to identify text in Chinese that may have become awkward or jarring because of translation. You don’t have to be able to improve the text in Chinese, although that would be ideal
    • You need to be able to translate text from Chinese into English to very high standards of accuracy

     

  • You must:
    • Be a native speaker of English
    • Have done an undergraduate degree in Chinese (or equivalent) and have lived and worked in China for at least 4 years as a full-time translator
    • Be able to read simplified characters of a range of styles including
      • Formal text such as editorials of the People’s Daily and government reports
      • Tourist literature
      • Commercial contracts
      • Technical manuals
    • Have knowledge of China of the depth and breadth required by the post
  • Selection process:
    • Application to our head office in London (contact details provided below)
    • Written test via email. The test will consist of translation from Chinese into English and proofreading translation of English into Chinese
    • The test will take up to 5 hours with a break in the middle
    • Telephone/face-to-face interview with Dr Kevin Lin
